I’ve been actively trading on Bittrex with about $9000 worth of BTC. I was new to Bitcoin, so I only did some minor trading, purchasing various altcoins and steadily building a good supply. I would be doing small transactions, usually only a few hundred dollars at a time. I was making a bit of money, but I was mostly interested in giving myself more exposure to the altcoin market. Everything was going fine until yesterday, I logged into my account and found that all of my altcoins had vanished.
I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what to do.
I combed through my trading history and immediately noticed that some of the last transactions were not made by me. I checked my email for any login notifications and indeed some random prick from Europe had logged in my account 6 hours ago. I’m still a bit newish to cryptotrading and I forgot to enable 2 factor authentication… The hacker first traded all my altcoins to BTC, and, then he traded it back and forth until all the BTC was used up in the trading fees that accumulated.
It didn’t make any sense.
I can only guess that the lowlife used my account to create a pump and dump, and, sold at its peak. Or simply sold my coins to himself at a mind-numbingly cheap price on the market. And since nothing happen except trading, it wouldn’t have flagged the system and thought everything was normal. I contacted the Bittrex support for help, but they turned around and told me to contact the police instead…
